The combination works but there seems to be no way to access the DM200's user interface from the local LAN e.g. I tested out the R6260 with a Netgear DM200 as the modem. Others may be more successful, but don't be too surprised if this router blocks access to your corporate VPN. I suspect that the NAT gateway doesn't like IPsec and packet fragmentation.

It will connect but there is something interrupting the data flow after the first few bytes.

There is a "VPN passthrough" mode but I could not get IPsec to work reliably through the router (from a Home computer to remote server). Given that incoming packets via a NAT Router have to be associated with an outgoing stream or an explicit port forwarding rules, it is difficult to see what they mean by this. It allows you to configure "secure NAT" or "open NAT", but does not explain what the difference is. The Netgear User Interface is clunky and slow.įirewalling seems mostly targeted at the suspicious parent market and focuses on outgoing controls and site blocking. The router supports BT IPv6, but I am not convinced that there is any sort of firewall for incoming/outgoing IPv6. There is no reverse ARP (needed for remote wakeonlan) and getting VPNs to work is a real problem. However, the router has only a basic firewalling capability and does not appear to add device names to a local DNS server. The signal is strong and data transfer is fast. The average home user will probably find it OK, but. The R6260 is better than the basic router you get from an ISP, but still lacks many features. I BOUGHT THIS ROUTER BASED ON OTHER REVIEWS HERE AND AM GLAD I DID OVERALL I'D SAY THIS ROUTER IS GOOD TO GO FROM THE BOX FOR WIFI CONSUMERS - NEEDS A COPY OF THE USER GUIDE INCLUDED FOR THOSE THAT AREN'T (EVEN IF IT'S JUST A URL TO THE PDF DOWNLOAD) I CANNOT RATE THE NIGHTHAWK APP (WHICH IS WHAT NETGEAR ARE PROMOTING AS AN EASY SETUP APP ON MOBILE DEVICES) AS I HAVE NOT TRIED IT - NOR TECH SUPPORT AS I DID NOT ASK FOR HELP ROUTER HAS AN INTUITIVE INTERFACE WITH COMPREHENSIVE INSTRUCTIONS ON CONFIGURATION IN THE USER GUIDE WITH DECENT FIREWALL CONTROLS OTHERWISE A SLEEK AND SOLID CONSTRUCTION WITH A USB PORT AND NICE SPEED OVER WIRED - I CANNOT RATE WIFI FOR SPEED OR RANGE AS I DID NOT USE IT OTHER THAN FOR SETUP I AM AN ADVANCED USER SO I COULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE MYSELF BUT FOR A NON TECH SAVVY HOME CONSUMER THIS PRODUCT MAY WELL CAUSE HICCUPS IF THEY DON'T USE WIFI - I SUGGEST NETGEAR UPDATE THEIR QUICK INSTALLATION GUIDE FOR THOSE THAT DON'T REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR LOGIN DETAILS FOR ADDED SECURITY AS DEFAULT USER NAMES AND PASSWORDS FOR ALL ROUTER ARE EASILY FOUND ON THE WEB I RECOMMEND YOU DOWNLOAD THE FULL USER GUIDE FROM NETGEAR WHICH HELPED ME OVERCOME THIS CONUNDRUM WHICH IS NOT EXPLAINED IN THE SETUP INFO THAT COMES WITH IT: I HAVE A WIRED ONLY NETWORK BUT THIS ROUTER COMES WIFI ENABLED BY DEFAULT HAS TO BE CONFIGURED BY A NET LOGIN TO GAIN INTERNET ACCESS SO ENSURE YOUR PC OR AT LEAST ONE NETWORK DEVICE IS WIFI ENABLED OR YOU'LL GET STUCK - ACCESS THE ROUTER HERE: 192.168.1.1 To learn more about how and for what purposes Amazon uses personal information (such as Amazon Store order history), please visit our Privacy Notice.īOUGHT THIS FOR A NEW HOME NETWORK SETUP BETWEEN A VIRGIN SUPERHUB 2 AND A NETGEAR SWITCH AND THEY ALL WORK WELL TOGETHER You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie Preferences, as described in the Cookie Notice.
